The Classroom & Blogs

Using blogs in our classrooms is one of the hottest ways to use technology in our schools. I do not use blogs yet but this fall I will begin to use these communication devices with my students and their parents. Teaching middle school, communication with parents is paramount. Also, helping students to remember homework assignments, upcoming quizzes and tests will be invaluable to my students. As the Student Council advisor, blogging will be a great way to communicate with the student body and the faculty. Blogging...it's the cool thing to do!

  1. Shayne, I agree that working with parents can be the key to a successful year. However, when you set up your classroom blog, you might want to think about creating a different one for parents if you'll be discussing more than the topics of the classroom. I've had a few parents who jump on technology communication because they can leave a message whenever they want instead of waiting for your phone call. Honestly, I'm sure that some would have no problem posting issues about their child's grades, behavior, homework load, etc. While it might not be particularly private, some students may still be embarrassed by having their parents' comments visible to all. Granted, you can delete a post as soon as you read it, but there is no guarantee that you'll be able to check everyday.
