One of the goals from NETS-T that I would like to incorporate in my classroom is to design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments. One way I can take action on this is to redesign successful, relevant lessons that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. I will monitor this goal by checking to see if student learning is being enhanced with the digital tools; are students learning better? Evaluating how the goal is working can be determined by student success and my success with the lessons.
Another NETS-T goal I have in to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility in our classroom. Most of the action on this goal will be students watching and witnessing how I model using technology. Are we safe, legal and ethical? Teaching and modeling proper digital etiquette is important as well. Self monitoring of my own practices with technology will be important. If my students are successfully and safely navigating their way through the digital world than I can rest assure that our goal has been meet.

Shayne-
ReplyDeleteI think that you have set excellent goals; however I am curious as to how you are going to measure whether or not student learning is enhanced with the use of digital tools? Just taking a class on ethical practices in the classroom I am trying to think of ways to research the use of technology versus more ‘traditional’ learning activities. Do you know how you are going to measure this in your classroom?

Hi Erin...you bring up great questions. Assessment in Reading is much more challenging then for instance a math class where things are more concrete. I guess at the end of the day I will continue to check for understanding and hope that our digital helpers have truly helped my students.
ReplyDeleteHello Shayne,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post. In this weeks course work, I found all of the standards to be vital in assisting our student in attaining 21st Century Skills. I did find what you had to say was interesting.
I read Erin's comment and your response. I agree that checking for understanding is very important. Perhaps you could keep a journal our reflection log of your findings in order to track your progress.
Good Luck!
Rebecca
Bringing up the evaluating thought, are you going to record experiences relevant to digital and non digital for the students? I think that would be great to actually compare and contrast student learning through technology. Possibly have one class that uses the technology and another class that does not and then compare their grades?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone do anything like this for their research project we previously worked on in the prior classes?
